Born in Croatia, David Oštrek studied singing at the University of music and Performing Arts in Vienna and has since been a Finalist and winner of numerous singing competitions. In 2010 he made his debut in the role of Aeneas in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin. At the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn he embodied Masetto in " Don Giovanni "and the title role of"Gianni Schicchi". In the 2015/16 season, David Oštrek became a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Sponsored by the Liz Mohn cultural and Music Foundation. Here he sang among others in Stephen Olivers "Mario and the magician", Rossini's" Petite Messe solennelle"," La traviata"," Ariadne auf Naxos", Aribert Reimann's" die Gespenstersonate"," L'incoronazione di Poppea "and"Tosca". He also performed at the Bregenz Festival, at the Daegu Opera House in South Korea, at the Municipal Theatre Wels, at the summer festival in Dubrovnik and at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, where he recently made his role debut as Escamillo in" Carmen". Since the 2018/19 season, he has been a permanent ensemble member of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and has been performing here as Leporello in "Don Giovanni", as Roderick Usher in the world premiere "Usher" and as Tisiphone in Rameau's "Hippolyte et Aricie". He also performed in" La traviata"," Il barbiere di Siviglia"," Macbeth "and" Pelléas et Mélisande".
